Yay, I got my first tag from dear old KUCI friend Ned Raggett to write about 7 songs that are my theme for spring! Here's more about it:
“List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring. Post these instructions in your blog along with your 7 songs. Then tag 7 other people to see what they’re listening to.”
So, yeah, I used to be a college radio DJ and uber music snob. Lately my tastes have digressed to my junior high school days of Janet Jackson and (more) cheesy pop:
1.
Moby "Ooh Yeah"-- This song is off his new album "Last Night" which has its good moments... alright I admit I'm into it. I tried really hard to dislike Moby. The first time I heard him, he was playing Lollapalooza in the mid 90s. I was there to see cool alterna bands like Sonic Youth, Pavement, Hole + whatnot. Moby played one of the side stages between one of those lame acts. I guess his "disco machine" (that's what he called it) broke so he had to play guitar. He played "Sweet Home Alabama" which I was way too cool to like. grrrr... I insisted on having a grudge against him until he did the
theme song for "Bourne Identity". Oh man what a good song and I, admittedly, have seen that movie at least 5 times. I'm a sucker for espionage (dude, I'm related to Sherlock Holmes).
2.
Donna Summer "Working the Midnight Shift"--Speaking of disco machines, I LOVE Donna Summer. I stood in line for 2 hours to have her autograph her autobiography (which kinda sux actually, don't buy it). Anyway, "Working the Midnight Shift" is an awesome not-well-known song for people who like Giorgio Moroder and Donna's song "I Feel Love". It's off of "Once Upon a Time", a freakin' awesome album. : )
3.
Kylie Minogue "Wow"-- Ok, Kylie's new album isn't as good as the last one but this song is really cool. And, yeah, I don't care if she's ripping off Madonna, has
horrible roots showing in some of her videos, and that horrible Loco-Motion song. What evs. This song is catchy and fun.
4.
Cut Copy "Hearts on Fire"-- This song has an annoying tendency to make you anticipate the booty shaking dance-your-ass-off parts then the beats drop and it's spacious... Over and over again. But this song has so much potential to be a really great dance song. I find myself thinking about a good remix or something... It's got the early '90s "ooh oh ooh" parts that I love. When you hear it, you'll know what I'm talking about. Seriously, I need the remix.
5.
Ladytron "Runaway"-- Oh, yeah, Ladytron was freakin' awesome when Matt, his pals, and I saw them at the Fonda a couple of weeks ago. : ) I feel that I will grow to love their new album "Velocifero" more and more as time goes on. It took me a long time to grow addicted to their previous albums "Witching Hour" and "Light & Magic" but it DID happen.... So much that they are one of the elite bands to make it to my iPod Shuffle strictly for working out (VNV Nation and Daft Punk are the only other 2 bands to exist on my Shuffle).
6.
Hard-Fi "Suburban Knights"-- So I don't know why but I've been listening to this anthemic song over and over again in the car lately. I'm that kinda person. When I'm alone and know I can be as annoying as I want to be, I listen to songs over and over again. I know there will be a time very, very soon that I will exhaust this song. That almost happened with "Common People" but I had both the Pulp and William Shatner versions and that was enough difference that it never quite got boring for me. Another grr angry "I hate rich people" song I was listening to over and over was "Everything Counts" by Depeche Mode... hmm... Then there was pretending I was shooting people while listening to M.I.A. "Paper Planes". Wow, I've got issues.
7.
PPK "ResuRection"-- I have no idea where I got some random DJ Anthony J's mix. It's a standard cheesy trance DJ mix that somehow ended up in my iTunes... I got hooked on the last song on the mix by PPK. I HAD to know more. WTF is PPK? I guess they are some Russian trance group/artist/whatever. I downloaded several mixes of this song. It's the not-so-crazy way to listen to a same song over and over again. Though, I'm quite sure my co-workers are getting annoyed. Hey, at least I'm not listening to "Christfuck" by Wumpscut around them (that's what I do when I'm all alone at work. teehee.)
That is all. Tag, you're it! : )
this is cool! have you ever used http://muxtape.com/ ? i haven't but have been meaning to - thought it'd be a good vessel for this project :)
